Striking a balance between practical and cute, fashionable and comfortable, night and day can all play their part in affecting decisions on what baby clothes to buy, and in what quantity. Choosing a baby’s clothes is really important. Heavier clothes really burden the child. Great care must be taken to choose the appropriate cloth for the child.

All of these difficulties in choosing baby clothes are made worse by the fact that babies grow so quickly. Clothes that would fit for the next few months if at all possible, must be bought. Baby will basically need three types of clothes: daytime clothes, night wear or sleepwear, and clothes for going out. The baby sleepwear will likely outweigh the other categories, as sleeping is what a baby does most of their time in the early stages.

The clothes for the baby to wear around the home should be comfortable, easy to access for changing diapers, and simple. These are the clothing articles that your baby will spend most of her time in, so they are bound to get dirty. The best clothes for day to day needs are probably simple body suits. Onesies is a brand name, but the term has stuck as a description for this type of one piece baby wear.

Baby clothing for sleeping should meet some of the same needs as the daywear, at least in terms of comfort, and accessibility for changing. A warm climate place may require similar clothes night and day. However, colder region with colder nights need a warmer version of the day wear and for the night heavier knit pajamas or similar sleepwear.

Outdoor baby wear gives a chance to the parents to dress baby up to look smart and nice. Very stylish and bright colors can be selected and bought for outwear for glittering appearance and for identification. The baby will not understand what's going on, but should sense the fun and companionship, so it will form a part of the baby's learning.

Care should be taken towards the material used for your baby's costume. Many store bought costumes are made of synthetic materials that are highly flammable, and also not very breathable for baby's sensitive skin. It is also to be ensured that the costume appropriate for the weather that time of year.
Baby clothes are great to give as gifts. Think humorous Onesies, whimsical baby tees, and sweet ensembles guaranteed to delight a baby. Look for baby clothes that are crafted from soft material specifically selected for baby's delicate skin.

Luxurious baby sweater is 100% cotton and boasts timeless style for a fabulous baby shower gift. With all the baby gear you need to purchase, a stroller is one of the most important items to have. It will be used often and you need one to complement your lifestyle. There are many varieties of strollers available today. Below are several key things to keep in mind as you narrow down what kind is right for you and your baby.

Stroller for one or two? Will you be purchasing a stroller for one child or two? There are a variety of different styles of strollers, including single, double and even triple models. If you only have one baby, then the most practical type is the single model. However, if you have two children close in age, it might be more beneficial to have one stroller to fit both. It’ll make trips to the mall a little easier to manage!

Where do you store all the necessities? Between the bottles, diapers and extra set of baby clothes in case there is a diaper mishap, you need to make sure you have proper storage to hold it all. Many stroller models feature storage compartments, cup holders and storage baskets perfect for housing her favorite birthday stuffed animal your baby can’t leave home without.

Easy does it! Pay careful attention to the weight and dimensions of the stroller. The average stroller today weighs approximately 30 pounds. That’s without your little one and all her essentials in it! Lift the stroller folded for when you are lifting it in and out of your trunk, as well as open when you’re going up those few steps and can’t wait for the elevator. Also take into consideration the profile of the stroller. If it’s big and bulky it may not fit with anything else in your car, even when folded. You will be transporting it a lot and the sleeker the size, the better it will be next to the grocery bags in the trunk.

Moves with ease? Take it for a spin—literally. Does it glide on all surfaces, including concrete, hardwoods and carpet? How does it fare when it’s up against grass at the local park? If you’re like most busy parents, you’ll be steering her stroller with one hand and holding her precious Disney blanket she keeps tossing on the ground in the other, so you’ll need a stroller to keep up with your every move. Make sure it has mobility and can handle all terrains smoothly and with little effort.

By taking some time and following these simple tips, shopping for a stroller should be an easy and fun experience. Whether or not you are buying it for your little one or for a baby gift, you’ll be armed with the best knowledge you need to make your stroller purchase a great one.

About the Author:

Kathi Mitchell operates a kids clothing store at: http://www.familytogs.com

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6055872693188424251.post-51621243987060043832008-08-06T02:31:00.000-07:002008-08-06T02:31:18.214-07:00Spring Returns: Let the Good Times Roll…strollers and Their Babies
Spring has returned with an invitation to come outside and enjoy the fresh air. Winter’s ice and snow have melted away-- gone forever like bad memories, the sidewalks and streets are dry, clear, and passable. Green replaces brown as the color of the local landscape. The Sun is shining bright; there is a fresh crispness in the air as gentle breezes enter through the newly opened windows delivering the invitation. The temperatures hover around sixty degrees. Parents read the invitation again: “Come, come outside and play, enjoy the outdoors with me”…signed “Spring”.

Mothers and Fathers, who have safely bundled up their babies and toddlers with layers of clothes during the winter months and carried them over the ice and snow, begin to slowly return to the neighborhood sidewalk and streets, parks, and malls, pushing their small babies along in their strollers. New parents or parents-to-be begin to shop for baby strollers so they can join other neighborhood moms or dads who set out for the great outdoors in response to spring’s invitation.
Life and people like the budding bushes, flowers, and trees reappear in neighborhoods adding themselves to the mosaic street scenes of springtime. Their babies and toddlers in their safety compartment enjoy the nice fresh air from their modern day “horse-driven” carriage that they have been deprived of all winter long.

With only a sweater or jacket as needed outerwear, they regally take in the sights and sounds of the beautiful fresh spring views as the gentle breezes caress their little faces through the screened windows of the enclosed cart. Mom or dad supplies the “horsepower” in front of them as they enjoy their “royal ride” through neighborhood of the local stately mansions.

Elsewhere, neighborhood moms, with Spring’s invitation in hand and the other hand on a stroller, join each other leisurely pushing their infants along side by side in single or double umbrella strollers sharing their stories of motherhood, and how they survived the winter doldrums being locked up indoors all season long. Each new breath of spring’s fresh air is really a sigh of relief of freedom for these winter prisoners. Off to the local park they go to join other proud parents to present their blessed children to each other (maybe for the first time), share parenting strategies and techniques, and catch up on the latest happenings in their neighborhoods.

Strollers these days come in many brand names, such BOB, Maclaren, TikeTech, and Bugaboo with different models that cater to sports minded parents, all-terrain, walking, jogging, cycling or hybrids. There are wide varieties of shapes and sizes for single, double, or triples passengers. They have umbrella type coverings, retractable canopies, prams, open air types, or enclosed cabins. Like in a paint store the colors are plentiful. There are three wheelers and four wheelers. There are set wheels and swivel wheels. They may have one carrying compartment or multiple compartments for the journey’s needed cargo. There’s something to meet every parent’s need to safely share the lovely outdoors and warm weather with their precious little child or children.

So let the good times roll as moms and dads, walking, jogging, or biking return to the sidewalks and streets of our neighborhoods; and reminds us all to look for that invitation to enjoy the outdoors, the fresh air, and the new life all around us, especially when we peek into those strollers to get a glimpse of the cute little babies who are their passengers.
By Robert Walsh

About the Author:

Robert A. So if it is that great time when you have some good news in your family or friends and you are in a state of confusion as what shall be the perfect gift for to be given to the parents or to show how much you care, baby gift basket would be a good idea indeed.

A gift basket shall always be appreciated whether it is going to be a baby boy or baby girl. You can either purchase a professional baby gift basket or you can also create one of your own. Mostly gift baskets in the market are very expensive that could cost you over $100 and therefore if you want to avoid spending much and also add a personal touch or care to your gift, you can surely go for a handmade or customized baby gift basket.

How to create a baby gift basket?

1. For creating a baby gift basket, you should determine the size of the basket and if you feel that you won't be in a position to fill a large basket, you should preferably use a small basket. You need to buy one such basket, raffia or tissue paper for filling, baby blankets, straw or shredded grass that you will easily find in any craft stores.

2. Next consideration is whether the baby is a boy or girl and whether it has already taken birth so that you can arrive at a decision as what things will be required by the baby. Another thing is whether the baby is the first child or not because if it is not the first arrival at the home then the mother of the child will be having most of the necessary things already at home.

3. An imaginative idea would be the use of a small laundry basket that could sit upon a dresser or a baby bath tub or anything such as baby diaper bag instead of using a actual gift basket. But then, at the back of your mind, you also want to get something practical, something that will be helpful to the new parents.

You know what they say about twins: "they're double the blessing, but also double the challenge." So what would you rather give? A unique baby gift that will impress, or a practical baby gift that will be much appreciated? Why not give something that will do both? The following is a list of practical and unique baby gifts that you can't go wrong with.

Offer to Help Out

This will not cost you a dollar, but you can be sure of its authenticity. Offers of help are definitely unique baby gifts in the sense that you cannot buy them on any baby store, or any other store, for that matter, not even for a thousand bucks!

Offer to babysit or run errands for a day so the parents can take time off for some much needed rest and relaxation. But be specific and sincere in your offer. Ask yourself how much time you can set aside for them and what exactly you can do, instead of what you just want to do for them. If you are not confident about your babysitting skills, do not take any chances. Just offer to cook dinner, or help with the laundry, instead. One thing to remember, though, when offering help to the new parents is to stay true to your word.

Diapers

Who would have thought diapers could be such great baby gifts? Ask the parents whether they prefer using cloth or disposable diapers, and then wrap up a few dozens. Diapers may not be fancy and all, but hey, they fall under the category of unique baby gifts. It is not often that new parents get to open a box of diapers!

Twin-themed Gift

Admit it. Twin-themed gifts are just adorable. Buy a pair of twin-themed baby items like frames, pillows, or clothes, and turn it into unique baby gifts by personalizing it with the babies' names, or even their time of arrival. You can also cook up witty slogans you can paint or engrave on your chosen items. A tip on buying clothes, though: ask the parents about the babies needs and sizes, so that your unique baby gifts will be useful.

Infant and Mommy Care Items

Buy a few practical items such as bath accessories, medicine dispensers, thermometers, diaper rash ointments, pain relievers, burp rags, and nail clippers. But before you wrap them up, get a few items for mom as well. She deserves to be celebrated just as much as the new babies are. So go ahead, throw in a couple of skin care items that the new mommy needs such as ultra-rich body lotions, facial creams, eye gel, body butter, and belly creams.

If you are willing to go the extra mile, get her a gift certificate to the beauty salon or to the spa. Make sure you hand it to her the same time you offer to babysit. Never mind getting her mommy guidebooks. With two babies to take care of, you know she would rather doze off when she can than read books.

About the Author:
If you are looking for unique baby gifts that will be appreciated by the new parents, get unique personalized baby gifts or creative baby shower gifts. You are having a new baby! Now, on to the serious stuff. You are going to get yourself prepared for your new baby, mentally, physically and you will need to adjust your house and car for the new baby too!

Mentally preparing for the new baby
Remember this, women adjust to having a new baby faster than men; so, do not expect husbands to start being all fatherly after the pregnancy is announced. They are not like that. Women adjust better to the new baby, mentally, because they experience physical, emotional and psychological changes. These changes help them adjust to the new baby quicker. However, men start feeling the new baby when they see the bump or feel the flicker of baby movement over mommy’s belly.

Physically preparing for the new baby
There is nothing much a new father can do to prepare to the new baby. What needs to be done by a father needs to be done BEFORE the new baby is conceived. However, the new father can try quitting smoking, quitting drinking and other vices once the new baby is conceived. The new mother needs to do the same too.

Planning for the new baby: the house and car
With the new baby, depending on whether you are planning to co-sleep with the baby or whether you are planning to plonk the baby in a separate room affects the changes to your home. Either way, we recommend having a separate room for your new baby, even if the new baby is going to be sleeping with the new parents for the first couple of months. A baby crib, some toys, a place to put all the baby’s clothes, shelves to convenient grab lotions, creams, diaper wipes, diapers, etc. off near the changing table is a MUST.

You will also need to think about getting a baby chair too; baby chair for the house (at the right height for the dining table) and a baby chair for the car (for traveling). Some baby chairs can be adjusted to fit the adult dining chair AND fit into the car at the same time. They are a little bit more expensive than the conventional baby chairs, but the multi-function is extremely convenient PLUS it is downright comfortable for your new baby.

Other essential stuff for your new baby
Frankly speaking, the essentials depend wholly on your own preference, budget and lifestyle. You can live without some of these things if you think you would rather not waste the money.

If you have had previous babies before, you probably do not need too many new baby clothes. New babies outgrow their clothes terribly fast and it would be a waste of money to splurge on new clothes. You can get hand-me-downs from nieces and nephews too, if you want. What you should probably get are blankets, sweaters, coats, and clothes for going out. At home, your new baby is not going to mind old clothes. In fact, it is a fact that your new baby is probably going to like wearing the old clothes better than the new clothes. Don’t forget the feeding utensils like baby bowls, breast pump (if you’re planning to pump breast milk for your new baby at work), baby bottles, cloth nappies, diapers, baby wipes, lotions, shampoo, bath gels, towels, baby blankets, baby bedding, bibs, stroller, etc.

And do not worry, you will do fine. The best thing to do is to get unbiased referrals from friends and family.

About the Author:
My Self : - Daljit Kaur
Details:Below :-
Name :- Daljit Kaur
email Id :- newgensolutions5@gmail.com
Address :- SCF-113, Phase XI, Mohali - 160055.
Punjab. They are cute, cuddly and simple adorable. A baby website is a perfect place to share your happiness with your friends and other people who have been blessed with such wonderful little miracles in their life. Your own experience with small little information about the little one and the products they should use must be there in the baby website.

A baby website must cover anything and everything related to a baby. From brushing yourself for the baby to breastfeeding to baby names, clothes, baby care, and baby food to teaching your baby the sign language-everything should come within a baby website.

Feeding- Getting into a well-structured feeding regime can take several months, with much trial and error. If breastfeeding, the moms face problems in early days, but can get help from nurses and elderly members in the family. Baby food is specifically given to infants between four months to two years. The food comes in multiple varieties and tastes, produced by different manufactures. Again what to feed and what not to feed- is something a new mom should know.

Baby clothes- Do you believe that babies, infants should dress in clothing to reflect their unique personalities. They need lots of dress to wear in every occasion. Are you looking for stylish, fashionable clothes? Some people prefer pink dress for girls and blue for boys. But the bottom line is baby clothes should be soft and easy to wear.

Diapers-Newborn babies go through about 8-10 diapers a day. That means for a new parent, diapers are a big part of your life. Whichever type of diaper parents choose to use, once again practice only comes with the ‘real thing’.

Bathing-Newborns pee and poop a lot and it can be a messy time. They need to be covered properly after bath. After two/three months, babies enjoy bathing time with bath toys.

Baby names-It is a very big decision to take for parents. How do you choose the right one? Be creative and give a trendy name.

You can put online baby e-books, guest book, videos, and photos, and many more baby related things in the website. Baby gifts, toys, furniture, clothes etc. should also be included. Blogs should be written on babies.

About the Author:

A Personal Baby Website was what John Roope wanted after his daughter was born. Nobody wants to spend an entire afternoon shopping for a gift that will go unappreciated. If you want to score the perfect bay shower gift, read on.

Where To Shop

The first step in shopping for a baby shower party gift is to make sure you go to a store that has enough choices of what you have in mind from different categories so that you have a fair selection to choose from. Going to a store that specializes in just one item is useless because when you find that they have nothing that strikes your fancy, then you'll have to hop to another store. And this can be pretty stressful.

When picking the store to shop from, whether it's a large retail company or a local store, make sure that they have a variety of items for the baby and the mom. A good store to go is one that would have baby clothing, accessories, hats, shoes, blanket, and diaper bags.

Baby Shower Party Gifts For The Mom

Don't forget that you have to keep the mother in mind when picking the gift. If you're going to a close friend's baby shower, make sure to pick a present that will reflect the mother's personality and style, something that will be useful for the nursery and something that she will also enjoy.

Books and knickknacks are great baby shower party gifts for the mom. Books are always appreciated. If you know that the parents have yet to decide on a name for the child, you can get them a name book. If the mother is on the early part of her pregnancy, get her a pregnancy book that will guide her through the rest of the month.

Another great thing to get for the mom would be a specialty diaper bag. There are a lot of stylish diaper bags that are fun to carry around. When shopping for a diaper bag, choose one that converts to a backpack or a purse, so that the mom gets different carrying options. Also, don't forget to choose a diaper bag that has lots of space and pockets inside, so that it's easy for the mom to organize the baby stuff.

Fun things you can get for the nursery are picture frames and photo albums. These things are never left on their boxes because most people take a gazillion pictures of their baby. And what better way to keep those pictures than in cute picture frame or photo album. If you know the theme of the nursery, you can get little stuffed animals or night lights.

Baby Shower Party Gifts For the Baby

If you're going to a baby shower for your niece, nephew, or godchild, you might want to pick something that is more reflective of your relationship with the child and the bond you want to keep with him or her.

Personalized clothing and blanket are great baby shower party gifts. You can have the child's name embroidered onto the cloth, or a fun line like "Aunt's Little Angel" or "God sent Godson". If you have yet to find out the baby's sex, opt for safer designs - that means less ribbons and flowers. Don't worry so much about the color. Just get fun colors because babies can wear any color!

About the Author:
Shopping for baby shower party gifts for your best friend's baby shower? Take advantage of this, to give you extra minutes to settle yourself and your child on the plane as well as to relax and take a breath.

Your baby bag containing diapers, feeding bottles, wipes, blanket, baby clothes and plastic bags for trash should be easily accessible. Use a smaller bag for these items so that you could either stow it on the overhead compartment or underneath your seat for easy access. Pack for yourself as well an extra shirt or set of clothes in case of any accidents.

The back seats of the plane can be convenient for you as it is near the lavatory for easier access.

To help your baby's ears adjust to the cabin pressure changes during take off as well as during landing, you can encourage swallowing by breastfeeding or bottle feeding him. If it is impossible to do such things, you can give your baby a pacifier. Your baby's ears are very sensitive. Toddlers could suck on a candy or lollipop or could nibble on chips or biscuits. If your baby is sleeping, then it shouldn't be necessary for you to wake him up and disturb his sleep.

If you need hot water or you need to heat up baby's milk bottles, ask for the help of a flight attendant. Keep your baby hydrated with water, juice or milk as flying in a plane causes dehydration.

Changing baby's diapers will prove to be a challenge. While airplanes provide a changing table, such can be small and so it would be hard if your baby was bigger. Ask the flight attendant for another place where you could possibly change your baby's diapers.

It is very much possible for your baby to feel uneasy and uncomfortable and so it can't be helped if he will cry. While you may hear some snide and rude remarks from other passengers, ignore these and instead focus your attention on your baby and tend to his needs.

An ideal seat for mothers would be the aisle seat so that you could easily walk back and forth the aisle (when safe to do so) when your baby begins to fuss.

Don't rush off the plane if it isn't necessary. Let the other people disembark first. In this manner you won't have to stand in a slow moving line with your baby on one hand and carry on luggage on the other.

About the Author:

James Brown writes about Travelocity web code, STA Travel coupon code and Alaska Airlines coupon codes

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6055872693188424251.post-73463686550125398222008-07-29T02:10:00.000-07:002008-08-02T02:12:48.359-07:00Tips for New Moms
When you are a new parent there are many things to think about and this is often done on very little sleep! This is because they are used to being snuggled in their mothers womb. Establish a sleep routine by 3 months. Try putting an extra diaper under baby when you are changing her. Another hint is to drape a burp cloth over a boy to prevent getting sprayed. Another hint, when your baby's outfit is getting destroyed because of diaper messes, it means you should go up to the next size!

Put babies to sleep on their backs. Though it is still not clear what causes SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) stomach sleeping has been found to be a contributing factor. It is also a good idea to get a sleep sack which is a wearable blanket that is the perfect substitute to blankets and sheets that may put your baby at risk for SIDS.

Babies who are not walking do not need shoes if they are learning to walk inside. Walking barefoot may help your baby gain strength and coordination. Invest in a sling or infant carrier this way you can get things done such as paying bills or doing laundry.

Keep a spare set of clothes on hand in your diaper bag. Babies are well known for covering themselves in spit up! Another suggestion is to carry zip lock bags with you to carry home the wet stuff. The last suggestion is to get a bouncy seat or swing. Place in it a long clothes line with outfits, diapers, bibs, etc. pinned to it. It can also be used as a room decoration. It has a bit of everything and something to carry it in!

Baby Quilt - here is a great gift from those that love to sew and quilt. Find an alphabet quilt pattern. Each square has a letter of the alphabet on it and a picture of an object that started with that letter. It can have numbers too. Each guest can be given/sent a square before the shower and can embroider, quilt, or embellish it according to her own taste. If the quilt is meant to be a wall hanging, guests can also attach little items like rattles and toys. Be sure that everyone signs their own block in some way and have the blocks returned by a certain date in order to have it put together. This can also be used as a decoration at the shower.

Make a scrapbook album. Take blank scrapbook pages and have everyone write down their well wishes (without Mom knowing it) for the new baby. This can be done at or before the shower and can be given at the shower or to Mom while she is in the hospital. If given after the shower, it can include photos taken there.

Pass out sheets of heavy paper decorated with baby related stamps, stickers, or pictures several lines drawn on. Have the guests write their name on the paper and then write down some baby/parenting advice. Once everyone is finished, collect them, add a cover, punch holes in it, and tie it together with some ribbon. Then hand it to Mom to read aloud. This will be entertaining as well as touching and is a nice keepsake. There is tons of room for creativity on this one.

Have each guest bring an extra gift (small item recommended) for Daddy-to-be and the host of the shower will then place them in large gift bag to present to him at the close of the party (usually after the main gifts are opened). He opens this with Mommy-to-be at home or in presence of close family or friends.

Diaper Shower--- For a second (or more) baby, consider a diaper shower. Ask each guest to bring only a package of diapers as a gift. Some guests may bring other gifts also, but Mom will end up with a mountain of diapers, something she will really need! Items could also include anything associated with diapering such as wipes, ointment, powder, etc.

Casserole Shower--- For the mother who has everything already, how about a Casserole Shower? Have each guest bring a casserole or other ready-to-cook meal that can be frozen or stored until after the baby is born. Be sure to have the containers clearly labeled with contents and any cooking instructions. How helpful that will be when Mom and Baby come home!
Book Party--- Have each guest purchase and give a copy of their favorite childhood book.

About the Author:
My Self : - Daljit Kaur
Details:Below :-
Name :- Daljit Kaur
email Id :- newgensolutions5@gmail.com
Address :- SCF-113, Phase XI, Mohali - 160055.
Punjab. For the baby, consider things like brushes, combs, washcloths, blankets, shampoo, towels, and changing sheets.

For the mother, consider things like lotions to help with stretch marks, gift certificates for a spa treatments after the baby has been born, free membership at a gym (make sure the mother will not be insulted by such a present) or a simple gift basket that will include bath salts, fragrances and all types of grooming implements.

Father-to-be

Also, a new trend in baby showers is the co-ed baby shower, so when thinking of things to bring to a baby shower, don't forget about the father. Of course, the mother-to-be will, in all probability, be showered with gifts, but the same can't be said for the father-to-be. So, think about bringing a gift for the father that centers on the baby.

One gift to give the father is an emergency gift basket, which can include things like diapers, bottles, books on parenting, blankets, baby clothes, and throw in a tee-shirt proclaiming, the father-to-be as the best dad in the whole world or something equally endearing.

Gifts for the nursery

Don't forget things for the nursery when thinking about what to bring to a baby shower. A lot of times parents wait until the last minute to finish a nursery, and probably do not have everything they need. So think of things like a crib, changing table, mattress and a diaper receptacle.

Travel items

Another important thing to consider to bring to a baby shower are things that parents can be used when traveling with the baby. For example, a car seat for bringing the baby home from the hospital, diaper bag to hold necessities for the baby, stroller, or a front baby harness or sling to facilitate carrying the baby.

Sentimental gifts

Sentimental gifts are nice as well. You can get the parents frames for baby pictures or cameras with rolls of films. There are kits that let you take a foot or hand imprint of the child. You can make a homemade gift like a knit blanket for the baby or even a small monetary gift like a bond, if you are a close friend or family member, for the baby's college fund.

About the Author:

Jacqueline Courtiol is a veteran teacher and mother who has lived through the trials and tribulations of a colicky infant. The key to sanity is some careful planning - and a calm, unruffled approach.

Where Should we Stay?

If you are planning at stay at a bed and breakfast, do some research. Many bed and breakfasts are not suitable for children. However, you may be able to find a 'farmstay' - a bed and breakfast on a farm that allows your kids to interact with the animals. This can be an unequalled family experience - especially for city dwellers.

Staying in a hotel? Do they provide extra cots and/or cribs for children? Do they have a restaurant with a kids' menu? Is there a playroom or playground on the premises? Are there children's activities nearby?

What Should I Pack?

Use common sense. Every family is different. Check the following list and pack what is appropriate for your household:

Small first aid kit

Liquid anti-nausea medication

Liquid Tylenol

Individual-sized tissues

Moistened hand-wipes in individual packs

Paper towels

Photos of the kids and important details regarding medications

Telephone numbers of doctors (at home and at your destination)

Copies of passports, birth certificates, custody documentation

Decks of cards, favorite toys, children's books

Coloring books, crayons, mechanical pencils, paper

Crossword puzzle books, erasable pens, highlighters

Windbreakers, slickers, umbrellas

Sunglasses, hats, sunscreen

Plastic bags from grocery store checkout (for storage and cleanup)

(Check with your airline first to see if liquid or gel-based items are allowed in carry-on luggage.)

Diaper Disposal

There are scented disposal bags available - or you might want to pack some small zip-lock bags. Plastic grocery bags or newspaper bags can also be used. The solid matter should be disposed of down the toilet. Next, roll the diaper up with the soiled area facing inwards so that you have a compact bundle with the plastic on the outside. Place the diaper in the zip-lock bag, seal most of the way, then press out as much air as possible while you complete the seal. Discard in a bathroom garbage container or outside garbage bin.

If you are outdoors and there are no outhouse or bathroom facilities nearby, you should carry the entire diaper contents with you, disposing of appropriately when you find a garbage bin or bathroom. DO NOT leave diapers or diaper contents behind. Besides polluting the environment, some animals are attracted to human waste. Protect the environment even more by making sure that you purchase biodegradable diapers (or switch to cloth).

If you must carry soiled diapers along with you for any length of time, you might want to consider packing a few deodorant disks or a baking-soda based scented deodorizer.

Snacks

If your children are finicky eaters, chances are you will encounter problems with airline and restaurant meals. Pack a few nutritious snacks. Snacks may include fresh fruit, granola bars, individual-size cereal boxes, cheese and crackers, raisins, unsalted peanuts - or snack-size containers of applesauce, puddings, and fruit cocktail.

Boredom

Boredom is always going to be a problem. Even a half-hour trip seems like a long time to a young child. The easiest and most accessible boredom solution is YOU. Use the time to interact with your kids. Ask them questions. Get them to tell you stories if they are old enough. You can keep young children entertained by telling them stories - complete with sound effects of animal noises, whistles, and whatever else you can invent.

Play guessing games like 'I Spy' with older kids, or get them involved in some children's cards games. Although games like 'Go Fish' can be played with a regular deck of cards, there are many games with special, brightly-colored decks made just for children. Do an internet search for 'card games for kids' and you'll find plenty of resources.

Inactivity

Sitting still for long periods of time is not a natural activity for children. If you're on a plane, train, or bus, get up and take a walk down the aisle once every hour. When travelling by car, find an appropriate pullout and play frisbee or go for a short walk.

Relax - Lighten Up - Unwind

Treat every family trip as an opportunity to connect with your children. Relax, enjoy their unique personalities, and enjoy yourself!

©Copyright Kathy Steinemann: This article is free to publish only if this copyright notice, the byline, and the author's note below (with active links) are included.

About the Author:

There are many more travel tips available at 1000+ Travel Tips - and you can search for more ideas at this page of search engines. But remember that without crying your baby will not be able to communicate anything with you. Accept the fact that crying is a way of developing the baby language. Especially, in the first six months, babies cry to communicate their needs. As a parent, you cannot always tell, but many mothers in due course will be able to recognize their baby's needs from the type of cry.

The most common reason for babies to cry is hunger. But there are many more common reasons for them to cry too. If your baby cries after a feed, do not jump to the conclusion that the feed was inadequate; instead look for probable reasons other than hunger. Babies cry to express their needs as they cannot communicate otherwise. Given below are the various reasons for which a child/baby cries. As a parent it is important to comprehend the baby language i.e. the reason of cry.

Some common reasons are:

Hunger: In the early part of their lives, babies may need to be fed at short intervals, sometimes in even less than two hours. Frequent feeding will help and over time your baby will space out his/her feeds.

Thirst: Usually not seen in breast-fed babies, but can happen to bottle fed babies, more so in summer.

Diaper-change: If the diapers are left on too long, it can cause painful and uncomfortable rashes. Frequent changing of diapers can prevent these troubles.

Too hot, too cold: Since babies are unable to change their clothes or uncover themselves on their own, they will cry to let you know that they are uncomfortable. The proper way is to feel your baby's body. If it feels cool, add a blanket. If he/she is sweaty or hot, remove a layer of clothing.

Uncomfortable clothes or positioning: Check to see if there is anything poking your baby like a price tag or a piece of Velcro. Change his/her clothes or give him/her some time being naked or swaddled in a warm blanket. Also, change his/her position of sleep. If he/she is lying on the back put him/her on his/her back.

Bowel movements: Some babies will cry, scream and get pink in the face just before passing urine or bowel movement. Once they are done they will be okay.

Anxiety and fear: Sudden movements and loud noises can trigger crying. Be gentle with your baby.

Boredom: Babies who are bored cry to get your attention. Picking up your baby and interacting with him/her can put a quick end to the crying spell.

Tiredness: Babies always don't know that they need to sleep when they're tired. It's your job to calm them down for naptime, not stimulate them.

Sometimes you and your baby can get into a crying cycle. When babies cry, you get anxious and start panicking. Your baby senses this, feels uncomfortable and cries even more. If you find yourself getting into these cycles, talk to your doctor. A sick baby will cry, but will also have other symptoms of illness like runny nose, fever, tugging the ear or diarrhea. Generally a healthy baby will have a strong, loud cry. If your baby's cry becomes weak, contact your doctor right away.

Crying is almost synonymous to baby language. A child primarily expresses it's emotions by crying, making sounds, laughing etc. In the initial stages, it is no cakewalk for a parent to comprehend their child's needs. But with passage of time, the message is communicated effectively and it is an important step in bonding between a parent and child.

About the Author:

Alvaro Castillo has been writing about health and specializing pregnancy along with how to deal with the first year of their baby’s life for 10 years, helping women with positive results. One of the best things you can do to prove your happiness is to organize a baby registry for your upcoming baby. A baby registry is essentially a list of items you would like to have when the baby is born. With this registry, you need not worry of having similar items from different relatives for instance. A registry is not just a set of list but also a plan for your relatives and friends that they might give.

Many Web sites provide suggestions and tips on items to include in a baby registry. This list below I collated from other sites is just suggestions to provide you some idea for your own baby registry. But be sure to put everything on your list that you think you would like. Great chances are if you leave something off the list, you may regret not having that item. On the other side of the coin, you may find that you have an item or two that you never even used.

Here are some suggestions:

- Nursery/Safety to include Crib

- Bassinette or Co-sleeper

- Changing table

- Bathtub

- Health kit

- Swing, Bouncy or vibrating seat

- Car seats

- Stroller

- Monitor

Extras for Baby Baby Einstein Videos to include:

- Nursing/Feeding Pillow

- Crib Toy and Mobile

- Diaper Wipe Warmer

- Playmat /kick toy/ play saucer

- Glider Rocker

- Baby carrier

- Baby Wedge

- Fun Bedding Theme

- Diaper Bag

Clothes to include:

- Onesies

- Wearable Blanket

- Winter Wear

- Summer/Winter Hats

- Diapers, More Diapers, and even more Diapers.

But oops, we forgot about one important thing: the baby registry store. How to find one?

The first item of business will be to choose one or two stores that specialize in baby gear and make sure they offer a baby registry. Whether you choose an online retailer or visit a store, you will get to browse, compare and then put together your wish list.

First, you choose the online store you want to use. There are several of these, some shops sell all you could possibly think of for a new baby, while others focus on clothing, or baby furniture. Make sure to research a little about the reliability and track record of the online stores.

At the online store, find their gift registry page.

Enter your name and address, so your friends and family can find your registry and so that the store can ship the items to you once they are purchased. You will probably be asked to give your E-mail address and a password so that you can modify your registry at a later time.

Once the registry is created, you will receive an E-mail confirmation with your information. You will then be ready to add the items you want to your registry. You do this by browsing the site and clicking on the 'Add to Registry' button (or similar) whenever you find something you like. Remember, you can always change this later. If you want some guidance on what to add to your list, check the bestselling items (or similar page) at the store. Parents just like you are getting what they need too, so let them guide you.

Finally, when you are finished creating your registry, send an email to your friends and family letting them know that you have set up your baby gift registry, and the web address of the online store.

Your family and friends can then check the site, find your registry through your name, and purchase their gift for you from your selected list. The store will send the gift to you. Yes, it's just as easy as that! The only task you will do is to un-wrap your gifts when they arrive.

About the Author:

BABY REGISTRY: Baby Naturale is a leading shop for diapers since 2002. Sometimes it may appear on the eyebrows, ears and other areas where sebaceous glands are located. It can occur in any baby, and appear during the early weeks of life and will clear by the sixth month. Some dermatologists think that high levels of maternal hormones are transmitted to the baby during the final weeks of pregnancy. This makes the sebaceous (oil) glands in the baby’s skin hyperactive which trigger overproduction of sebum which not only overstimulates the growth of new skin cells but also binds the old skin cells into flakes and crusts. It often has a mild unpleasant smell and does not cause any discomfort to the baby.

Some doctors recommend leaving it alone but I prefer to treat it early because I have seen many cases whereby the crust becomes so thick that whenever it is rubbed, large chunks of hair comes off leaving a very red and raw looking area. Treatment is to apply a liberal amount of baby oil to the affected area about 20 minutes before the baby’s bath. This will allow the crust to become soft and easy to remove. During the bath, apply a little baby shampoo to the head and using a soft hair brush or face cloth, gently brush or rub the crust off. Do this once a day until the crust has been completely removed. Sometimes it may recur after a few days so continue to wash baby’s hair in the same way. Once the baby’s sebaceous (oil) glands settle down the condition will disappear.

N.B. The oil application must be shampooed out to prevent an oily buildup which may make the condition worse. Do not try and remove the crusts and scales with the tip of a fingernail.

Heat rash consists of tiny blisters filled with sweat. It forms when the pores become blocked and prevent the sweat glands from releasing the sweat or when heat and humidity exceed the ability of the sweat glands to cool the body. Babies are especially vulnerable because their ability to sweat is not fully developed and they often wear or lie on waterproof materials. It normally develops around the neck, face, armpits and sometimes on the chest and back.

Western medication includes applying calamine lotion and antihistamines for severe itching. Sometimes applying a light dusting of corn starch powder may help to relieve the itchiness. Chinese traditional remedy is to bath the baby with boiled dried bitter gourd vine daily for 3 days.

It is best to prevent the condition from developing by dressing the baby in light cotton clothes especially in warm or hot weather. Avoid laying the baby on a plastic covered mattress or pad. Do not apply moisturizing cream or lotions or use bath oils for babies under 3 months as these products may clog the pores. Do not over wrap the baby in layers of clothes and swaddling blanket.

Nappy rash is often due to infrequent nappy change causing irritation from ammonia which is released when bacteria starts breaking down the contents of a dirty nappy. It could be due to an allergy to your washing powder or fabric conditioner if your baby wears cloth diapers or a food/drug allergy especially antibiotics. The genital area, buttocks, groins and sometimes the upper thighs will look red and inflamed. It can be dry or moist and sometimes look pimply. Babies with nappy rash may be very fussy and cries frequently or does not seem bothered at all.

“Prevention is better than treatment” so the best defence against nappy rash is a dry bottom.

Infantile eczema is an itchy dry scaly rash usually seen on the cheeks or chin, but may show up on the head, trunk, back of arms, or front of legs and is not contagious. It is first noticed at 2 to 5 months of age and is most common in families with history of allergies or asthma. In most cases it will settle down by the time the child reaches school age but for some it may continue to be a life long problem. The frequency and severity of flare ups can be dramatically reduced with careful daily washing using a hypoallergenic soap and applying moisturisers, topical steroids when needed. Avoid trigger factors such as excessive sweating, woollen clothing, soaps and bubble bath. Sometimes it may be necessary to give baby antihistamine if the itch is very intense and is making the baby very irritable.

Sometimes the eczema can become infected by bacteria and this causes extensive redness, swelling and weeping of the affected area. In this case it may be necessary for the doctor to prescribe an antibiotic cream together with a steroid cream. Children with severe eczema usually also have hay fever and asthma.

Urticaria or hives are red or pink raised areas on the skin that are very itchy and warm to the touch. It may appear on any part of the body and usually last from a few hours to a few days, but can stay for weeks or even months in some cases. Hives are usually caused by food allergies with the most frequent culprits being eggs, shellfish, chocolate, food additives, colouring or preservatives. It can also be due to allergy to certain drugs or in response to contact with animals especially cats or from insect bites.

It may come on after exposure to extreme temperature especially heat or chemicals. Most often hives will disappear on its own after the allergic reaction is over. If it causes itching and discomfort, the doctor may prescribe an oral antihistamine and calamine lotion to apply on the rashes. Avoid giving your child allergy causing food until the hives have subsided. Later try to find the offending culprit by reintroducing the food item one at a time and once you know the offending food it is important to let your child’s caretakers or school teachers know so that the food is avoided. This is because very rarely, hives can develop in the mouth and throat which can obstruct the child’s airways. You can put this information on sticker labels on your child’s feeding utensils especially in preschools when your child is too young to tell the caretakers.

Traditional Chinese therapy recommends not bathing the child as it will cause more rashes to appear and make the rash itch more. Treatment is to heat up some rice wine and apply it on the rashes 3 times a day. Most often the rashes will disappear after 2 days.

Hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a skin rash with flat or raised red spots on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet and sometimes on the buttocks. Often the rash will form tiny blisters which look like the chickenpox rash but it does not itch. A day or two later the child may develop sores or blisters on the tongue, gums and inside of the cheeks. They begin as small red spots on the tongue, gums or mucous membranes which then develop into blisters or sores.

It is caused by Coxsackie virus A16 which belongs to a group of viruses called enterovirus and is normally not serious. Infection is spread by direct contact with saliva, nose and throat discharges, fluid from the blisters or the stool of an infected person who is most contagious during the first week of the illness. All infected cases recover without medical treatment by 7 to 10 days. It is most common between ages 6 months and 4 years. Very rarely, it may be caused by another strain of Coxsackie virus EV71 whereby the child develops aseptic meningitis or encephalitis (Inflammation of the brain). This strain may be fatal as in the case in Sarawak in 1997.

Treatment is to provide relief from fever or pain from the mouth ulcers and give plenty of fluids. There is no immunization for HFMD.

Thrush or candidiasis is a fungal infection from Candida albicans. It appears as a red bumpy rash in the diaper area and the bumps are sometimes pus-filled. It may be worse in the skin folds and does not respond to diaper cream. Often the primary source of infection is in the mouth which then spreads to the nappy area from the contaminated stools. It normally starts as a couple of white patches on the sides of the mouth and if not treated quickly can spread until the tongue is coated as well. This makes it painful for baby to suckle. The creamy patches look like milk curds and therefore is easily missed. Use a cotton bud to wipe the white patches. If the patches cannot be removed it confirms that the baby has thrush therefore should be taken to the doctor who may prescribe Daktarin gel for the oral thrush and cream for the nappy area. If the infection is severe it may be necessary for the doctor to prescribe Daktacort which has a small amount of steroid in it to speed up the healing process. All feeding equipment must be boiled thoroughly for 10 minutes to prevent recurrence.

Roseola infantum or false measles is a viral illness in young children between the ages of 6 months and 2 years. The rash is pink and may have small flat spots or raised bumps. These spots may have a lighter "halo" around them and may turn white if you press on them.

Roseola usually starts out with a sudden high fever often over 103° Fahrenheit or 39.5° Celsius. During this time, the child may appear fussy or irritable and may have decreased appetite, mild diarrhoea and swollen lymph glands in the neck. The fever typically lasts three to five days and end abruptly followed by the telltale rash which is usually seen on the trunk and neck, but it can extend to the limbs and face. The rash may last for several hours or days.

A diagnosis of roseola cannot be made until the fever drops and the rash appears, so the doctor may order tests to make sure that the fever is not caused by another infection.

Roseola is contagious and spreads through tiny drops of fluid from the nose and throat of infected people. There is no known way to prevent the spread of roseola. Repeat cases of roseola may occur, but they are not common.

Treatment is to keep your baby well hydrated with lots of fluids and to control the fever to prevent a febrile seizure as about 10 to 15 percent of children with roseola have a febrile seizure.

Knowing the different types of rash and treatment is important to help alleviate your baby's discomfort.

About the Author:
Cecilia Koh is a registered nurse/midwife with over 30 years working experience in England and Malaysia. Nature has been kind to us in the fact that she has given us nine long months to prepare for this life altering occasion. From your first visit to the doctor to confirm your pregnancy to your anticipated hospital visit to give birth there is a long list of things to do before the arrival of your child. Whether this is your first or your fifth child rest assured that your need of new organic baby products and services will be as unique as the precious life you carry within.

The baby product industry has reinvented itself to cater to the needs of a new generation of parents that are extremely read read on the subject of child birth and are indeed more environmentally conscious when it comes to planning for their child's future and deciding what baby products will be purchased to care for their newest member of the family. With a large emphasis of organic, green baby products to burst on the marketing scene everything from disposable Eco-green diapers to natural raw cotton baby clothes and bedding are available in most stores and online Eco-conscious green websites and the good news is that these products do not cost much more than their inferior counterparts.

With the ever looming problem of imperfect imports from china and other unregulated markets that lack the stringent guidelines of the United States and other quality European countries new parents today must be more vigilant then ever before when it comes to making the right baby product choices. The joy of choosing your babies first toys, crib, bottles and clothes can all be extinguished when thinking about the carcinogens that are found in most plastic, unnatural cloth materials and toy paint finishes. Carcinogens are very caustic dangerous chemicals that often cause harmful rashes and side effects when tender new skin comes into contact with them. It is important to arm yourself with the proper knowledge as to where, when and how the products you choose for your family were made

Five major ingredients to avoid when purchasing baby products:

Most consumer goods contain Phthalates, a caustic chemical also found in your babies bath and body products. They can be found in most of your babies play toys and bath products. They are also found in baby powders, baby shampoos, lotions and fragrance.

Mineral Oil - One of the most commonly used products on babies and potentially the most dangerous.Serious carcinogens can be found in mineral oil. Mineral oil, also known as baby oil, can cause dehydration to a babies skin by blocking the absorption of natural moisture.

Lanolin - Often used for moisturizing or diaper cream may cause an allergic contact skin rash. Lanolin, derived from sheep also contains pesticides that were used on sheep and wool products

Cornstarch - Not recommended for use on yeast related diaper rashes, cornstarch encourages the growth of yeast that will perpetuate diaper rash instead of cure it.

Before you buy your babies shampoo and bath products make sure to check the labels to insure that they do not include Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. The foam factor in most shampoo and bath products is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. It can cause irritation to a babies scalp as well as penetrate an infants eyes and systemic tissue this is of concern to babies who are under going substantial eye growth.

Most ingredients found in popular name brand adult and infant skin care products are extremely harmful to delicate and sensitive new skin. Give your baby the best start in life when you invest in pure, organic baby products,a natural start is the best gift to your child in a already polluted world.

About the Author:
Dori Schwaiger is an accomplished author on natural health & wellness. However, many of these rashes are readily treated once an appropriate diagnosis is made. See your primary physician or ask for a referral to an allergist or dermatologist if you have a rash that's getting the best of you.

The diaper rash will be red, appear inflamed and will be in the genital area, the folds of the thighs and around the buttocks of your baby. The affected areas will need to be treated or it might grow into something worse such as a fungal infection or a bacterial one. Usually yeast infections start in babies that are on antibiotics since the bacteria that keeps the yeast infection in check are killed along with the bad bacteria.

Baking Soda

Take 1 tablespoon of baking soda and mix it with luke warm water. Bathe your baby in the water with the baking soda for 10 minutes. The baking soda neutralizes the acids that causes diaper rash.

Evening Primrose Oil, Sunflower Oil: These cold-pressed oils provide the essential fatty acids omega-3 (linolenic acid) and omega-6 (linoleic acid) as well as GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), important modulators of the inflammatory response. Help regulate epidermal proliferation and desquamation of the skin.

To treat a diaper rash, you can do many of the same things, but try to avoid vigorous rubbing of sore areas. A squirt bottle and then gently patting your infant dry can be less irritating. Next, after allowing him to completely dry, let him air out a little longer if possible, and put a generous amount of your favorite diaper rash cream or ointment to completely cover the rash.

Change the diapers regularly. A major cause of diaper rash is the prolonging of wet or soiled diapers. Urine and waste by themselves already do much to irritate your baby’s skin, but combined, they form a lethal tag-team of irritants. The urea in urine breaks down in the presence of urease, present in fecal matter, increasing the baby’s skin pH. The increase promotes fecal enzyme (like lipase and protease) activities that, in turn, increase the skin’s susceptibility to bile salts that act as irritants themselves. Be sure to change your baby’s diaper each and every time it gets soiled, even if is as often as two or more times every hour.

Make a paste out of petroleum jelly and cornstarch, coat babies bottom....
it works way better than store bought cremes. When going diaper-free isn't feasible, the best way to avoid diaper rash or cure an existing outbreak is to make sure the baby is always clean and dry. Check the baby's diaper often, and change it as soon as possible after it is soiled.

Rinsing

Sometimes you will have to rinse off urine and poop instead of wiping it away. Even with alcohol-free wipes or wet wash cloths, your baby's diaper rash will continue to worsen. Rinsing off bodily fluids with water is a painless way of cleansing your baby's bottom. You can use a sink hose, bathtub, shower, or even a bulb syringe filled with water.

About the Author:
Read about beauty tips, makeup tips, eye makeup tips . The birthing of a new life into the world is a wonderfully joyous occasion. That being said, lets get to the heart of the matter. With a new infant come new bills and new expenses. Medical bills, formula, baby clothes, diapers, cribs, blankets, strollers, car seats, day care, school supplies, toys etc. and that is just the beginning. Unless your infant is born at home and you are somehow fortunate enough to have a extraordinary nanny with money , extra expenditures are in your future. So many women are single mothers, some are unemployed and some are just not making enough money to bear the expense of motherhood. Many expenditures accompany the birth of a child that many mothers are driven to leave their children in day care for long periods of time just so they can go to a second or third job. This lack of necessary funding is widespread to say the least. With teen pregnancy and joblessness being two of the substantial contributors to this trend, children having to do without and parents having to struggle is common. I am a single mother says Janice Augusta, It is difficult to pay for the necessary items that my daughter needs on my current salary. This toolbar really helps to have a way to fill the gap between paychecks. I am sold. The most common strategy used to offset the effects of single parenthood, and lower income parenthood is to get a second or third job. This method is an exhausting one and deprives the parent of precious bonding and teaching time with the child. Not to mention potentially not experiencing the irreplaceable firsts of the childs life such as first steps, first words etc. Many times, job related issues take far too much away from parent child relationships. 9 out of 10 mothers polled would to spend more time with their children rather than work. 5out of 10 admitted taking more time off from work for their child than they had available as vacation days. In an effort to overcome this discrepancy between what they want to do and what they need to do, many mothers have turned to the internet to earn additional money . There are multiple online means to earn money. However, many dont provide much income for the work required. Other detractors from the other services is that they cost money to join and use. One method that mothers are using in increasing numbers is the free Baby Names It Toolbar" at BabyNamesIttoolbar dot com. The internet is riddle with errors, and the Baby Names It Toolbar allows parents to earn money to pay for their childrens needs by finding and reporting the errors they notice online. With an average price being paid for locating and reporting errors hovering as high as $2.00 per valid reported error, it is extremely easy to see why it is an attractive method of making ends meet. Most web surfers are irritated by errors on websites and web documents anyway. They just seam to interrupt the natural flow of a document. Did you see that? I wrote seam instead of seem in the sentence just before this one. Most people see errors like that one but never report them. Now reporting an error like that one can be money in your pocket. Errors just continue to be read over and over again by different visitors. There are trillions of errors on the internet. Errors such as misspelled words, incorrect punctuation, poor grammar, missing graphics, broken links and many more types of errors are just waiting for someone to report them and at an average price of $2.00 per find, it is relatively easy for moms and dads to make a difference in their financial situations. Now, with the help of the Baby Names It Toolbar via TypoBounty dot com, errors on websites are worth money to those that are the first to report them.

About the Author:

The author, John Reed, a father with 15 years business experience, has had the opportunity to use and review multiple online businesses.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6055872693188424251.post-74814265851201649812008-07-15T18:43:00.000-07:002008-07-18T18:48:50.220-07:00Potty Training (signs of Readiness)

by Germaine Wong

Before starting potty training with your child, watch for signs of readiness for training. A child who is forced to try to comply may experience a sense of failure (so do the parents).

General Signs of Readiness

Demonstrates initiative behavior

Dislikes wet or dirty diapers

Able to pull elastic waist pants up and down

Is aware of the "need to go" and shows it by facial expression or by telling you.

Is anxious to please you

Asks to use the potty chair or adult toilet

Preparatory Steps

Take your child into the bathroom with you. It helps if brothers and fathers set an example for boys, mothers and sisters for girls. Siblings are often delightful to be role models.

Make a point to change diaper in the bathroom as it will associate the process with the place.

Talk about the advantages of being trained; the pleasure of being clean and dry, no more diaper rash and no more interruptions for diaper changing.

Let your child practice putting and taking off the training pants by himself.

Have a potty chair handy on which the child may sit on (even with the clothes on), perhaps while you are in the bathroom yourself. It is to let your child get familiar with the equipment. Let your child try flushing the toilet for you, to help him or her get used to the noise it makes and avoid possible fear later on.

Start off by reading "potty" books to your child. Many good ones are available.

About the Author:
www.mybabybathroom.com
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6055872693188424251.post-46081992577776860102008-07-14T18:41:00.000-07:002008-07-18T18:43:34.647-07:00Fatherhood According To Larry

by Sue Ticotin

My husband has been known to have some unconventional behavior at times. Some of it is intentional and some of it is not. I especially remember some of his earlier antics.

Men who grew up with much younger siblings are more naturally at ease with taking care of babies. Larry did not have this advantage. It soon became evident the night our friends, Jim and Sally, came over for dinner with their 6 month old child. Wanting to give my husband some practice time in handling babies, Sally handed over her baby to Larry to hold for a few minutes. He was clearly nervous and uncomfortable and didn't know what to do. When I announced that dinner was ready, Larry who is always the first in line when it comes to food, eagerly turned to put the baby down on the blanket so he could eat. Although my husband was not kid savvy, he was quite familiar with cats, particularly how they can survive falls from great heights. The fact that he was holding a baby and not a cat did not occur to him. He just didn't make that connection. Thus, Larry bent down so that he was within approximately a foot or so of the blanket and tossed the baby expecting that this little creature would make a perfect landing. Everyone stood in horror as the baby left his arms and clumsily landed on the blanket. We all stood with mouths wide open and out stretched arms hoping that one of us would be able to cushion the impact. Unfortunately, no one could react in time, but we were all quite relieved that the baby was okay and survived my husband's naïveté.

Shortly after this episode I became pregnant. My husband and I attended Lamaze classes as most expectant parents did. One night at Lamaze class, Larry shared his theory about how he believed that this birthing thing was not as bad as women made it seem. He was joking of course, but since no one in the room really knew him, his comments were taken seriously. He pointed out that many women of other cultures often gave birth in the farm fields and went right back to work. He felt that American women were pampered too much. His saw no reason why we shouldn't just get over it and go back to work immediately. My husband was not well received that night, but he loved the fact that he could stir things up so much.

When our son was born, Larry helped by doing the housework and anything else that needed attention. He became more proficient at holding and bathing the baby, and would occasionally change a wet diaper, but shied away from changing the soiled ones. After a month of this, I decided that he needed to do his share of dirty diapers. I issued the ultimatum.... Do it or wear it! I called him over and instructed him on what to do. I did most of the work, but after that first time handling a diaper full of those little surprises, he broke out into a sweat and had to go lay down on the bed. It simply was too much for him to handle. After all the drama, he went on to change hundreds of dirty diapers. In my mind, Larry was now officially a father!

In retrospect, my husband should have been labeled hazardous material and our family has the scars to prove it. Larry had painted our bedroom just prior to my giving birth to our second child. He had not gotten around to putting the sliding closet doors back on their tracks and instead just propped them up against the wall. One morning, my husband was getting ready for work and had moved one of the doors to get his clothes. I was still asleep and unaware of the perilous situation. As he was about to step out of the bedroom, the thirty-pound door fell over giving me and my nose a wake up call that I will never forget. After the initial shock and viewing the gruesome site, I immediately gazed over at my 3-week-old son sleeping in his bassinet at the foot of the bed. He was happy and sound asleep. My nose was broken and in need of stitches. The closet doors were hung back on their tracks that day.

Leaving my husband in charge of the kids always tended to make me a little nervous. Larry often enjoyed spending time cast fishing from a canoe with our older son who was 3 years old at the time. He was concerned about safety and always made our son wear a life preserver. Unfortunately, I should have insisted that our son also wear a helmet because one day Larry returned to the house announcing that we needed to go to the hospital. He had cast the fishing hook into the back of our son's head!

Our younger son did not fare much better in his father's hands. When our son was about 6 months old, I put Larry in charge of the kids so that I could do some errands. I would only be gone for an hour. What could possibly happen? When I returned, I was greeted at the door with that all too familiar announcement that we needed to go to the hospital. My son had fallen out of a chair and cut his head.

Over the years I've learned to anticipate certain behaviors, as my husband is predictable in some respects. However, sometimes there is just no way of knowing what he is going to say or do next. Living with him is never easy, but it is certainly never dull. Helmets are a must.

About the Author:Beside writing humorous stories, Sue Ticotin's, Defining Elegance LLC also offers baby bedding and luxury bedding and duvets , European fine linens, custom bedding, coverlets, throws, shams, baby bedding, decorative pillows, draperies, and accessories.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
