Tips for New Moms

When you are a new parent there are many things to think about and this is often done on very little sleep! To help you master motherhood we have ten quick and easy tips and tricks on keeping your baby healthy and happy.

Swaddle to soothe your baby. During the first couple of months, many babies sleep significantly better if they are swaddled. This is because they are used to being snuggled in their mothers womb. Establish a sleep routine by 3 months. Try putting an extra diaper under baby when you are changing her. Another hint is to drape a burp cloth over a boy to prevent getting sprayed. Another hint, when your baby's outfit is getting destroyed because of diaper messes, it means you should go up to the next size!

Put babies to sleep on their backs. Though it is still not clear what causes SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) stomach sleeping has been found to be a contributing factor. It is also a good idea to get a sleep sack which is a wearable blanket that is the perfect substitute to blankets and sheets that may put your baby at risk for SIDS.

Babies who are not walking do not need shoes if they are learning to walk inside. Walking barefoot may help your baby gain strength and coordination. Invest in a sling or infant carrier this way you can get things done such as paying bills or doing laundry.

Keep a spare set of clothes on hand in your diaper bag. Babies are well known for covering themselves in spit up! Another suggestion is to carry zip lock bags with you to carry home the wet stuff. The last suggestion is to get a bouncy seat or swing. The calming sounds and motions soothe just about any baby to sleep.
